Life doesn’t stink, unless you happen to be following a garbage truck! Our local disposal company does a great job getting rid of our trash, but no one intentionally follows them around town. We have a choice every day what we “follow,” where our thoughts take us, and the kind of garbage we allow to enter our heart. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to “guard your heart with all diligence for it determines the course of your life.” It really does make a difference. If your attitude is negative, it might be a good time to take out the trash, and then make sure not to follow the garbage truck around town. Instead, do what Philippians 4:4-9 encourages.
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Be joyful! Be gentle and kind. Don’t be anxious, rather pray and be thankful. Think on those things that are pure and noble, things that are excellent and praiseworthy. Get rid of the stinkin’ thinkin’ and allow God’s peace to guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.
