Colossians 1 centers on the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ. Paul begins by thanking God for the Colossians’ faith, love, and hope, then prays that they would grow in spiritual wisdom and live lives worthy of the Lord. The chapter reaches its climax in the great Christological doxology (1:15-20), declaring that Jesus is the image of God, Creator of all things, sustainer of the universe, head of the Church, and the One through whom all things are reconciled.
